Who doesn't love a coffee run and where better than the beautiful Beacons with the amazing Baffle Haus on route. It's not all about the coffee either, this drive includes some of the best roads and views in the area and also doubles up as a great sunset drive with pizza and a view to die for.

Drive Overview

Largely a selection of mountain B roads including some twisty sections and great views.

Extended Drive Highlights & Info

The great thing about a coffee run is that even if you don’t like coffee there is usually always good cake and this run is no exception to that rule. Book ended by two coffee stops, the run can be completed in either direction but my personal favourite is the one described here. The view when driving the B4560 northbound towards LLangynidr is simply stunning but this route is fantastic driven either way.

Starting at the highly regarded Baffle Haus you are spoilt for options on the refreshments front. Coffee, cake, breakfast and now lunch with a click and collect service allowing you to order food ahead from the Fuel Station. They are also dog friendly if you want to bring along a furry 4 legged friend for the trip. Baffle Haus is VERY popular, especially on a dry day and is also a bike community favourite with a bike gear store on site. The car park is split between cars and bikes and at busy times can become full so bear this in mind when the sun is shining. If you are unlucky and Baffle Haus happens to be full, there are plenty of places to grab a coffee just a short trip up the road in Abergavenny with Bean & Bread and Coffi Lab being two personal dog friendly favs.

Once you are suitably fueled it’s time to hit the roads and you are in for a treat as we head for the hills. Shortly after leaving Baffle Haus you will make your way up the side of the Blorenge along the B4246 with some fantastic views along the way. Keepers Pond is a great place to stop to take in the scenery and if wild swimming is your thing, you can even take a dip. Keepers Pond can get busy so if the car park is full, there is additional parking slightly to the east in the Foxhunter car park which is also a short stroll away from the Blorenge summit. If you have a bit more time and enjoy a nice circular walk, you can walk around the top of the Blorenge from either car park. The walk is relatively flat, takes around 2 hours and has far reaching views most of the way around.

Moving on we will head across to possibly my favourite Beacons road, the B4560. Great to drive in either direction but the view is bonkers as you start to descend northbound into LLangynidr. There is a picture perfect place to stop marked with a waypoint on this route with an amazing view north towards Llangorse Lake. If you time it right as well, Little Dragon Pizza Van may be there serving gorgeous wood fire pizza. Check them out on Facebook to see when they will be there if interested, it makes a great sunset drive treat. There are usually a lot of sheep as you cross the moors along the B4560 so keep your eyes peeled and drive carefully.

When you are ready to move on, you will head down into Llangynidr where the B4560 crosses the river Usk. There is a width restriction on Llangynidr Bridge / Forge Road of 7 foot, so wider cars may wish to take a small detour along the B4558 towards Talybont-on-Usk and then cut back towards the A40 along Station Road.

Once through Llangynidr you will join a short stretch of the A40 before rejoining a nice flowing section of the B4560 that heads via Llangorse to our final coffee stop, Honey Cafe in Bronllys. Offering a great view of your journey so far, there is table seating both indoors and outdoors available and if feeling peckish, they also serve breakfast, sandwiches and bigger plates. You can book a table indoors in advance if you wish however dogs are only welcome outside where the tables are on a first come first served basis.

You are spoilt for choice as to where your drive takes you after the Honey Cafe. To the south west is Brecon and many more fantastic Beacons roads or alternatively you could head back south along the scenic A40 towards Abergavenny via Crickhowell. There is also of course the option to turn around and do it all over again, and I wouldn’t blame you if you did.

Enjoy =)
