The B3135 climbs out of Cheddar through England's largest gorge, between sheer limestone cliffs, and out onto the open top of the Mendips. It's short and slow, all tight bends between the rock walls, and best taken from the village up.
Watch for goats and sheep on the road, and for walkers at the foot of the gorge, where the caves and cafés are. Go early or out of season: in summer the village end is busy, and its car parks fill by mid-morning.
